Candle Care & Safety
Looking for the best way to burn a candle, prevent tunneling, or make your candle last longer? This guide covers everything you need to know about candle care and safety. From wick trimming and burn times to storage and maintenance, these recommendations will help you get the most out of your Wick Theory candle while ensuring a safe and enjoyable fragrance experience.
-
Trim the Wick Before Every Burn
Always trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch before lighting your candle. Keeping the wick properly trimmed helps maintain a steady flame, reduces soot, minimizes mushrooming, and promotes an even wax melt.
-
The First Burn is the Most Important
Allow the melted wax pool to reach the edges of the vessel during the first burn. This typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on the candle size. Creating a full melt pool helps prevent tunneling and ensures your candle burns evenly throughout its life.
-
Burn Responsibly
For best performance, burn your candle for no more than 3-4 hours at a time. Excessive burn times can cause the vessel to become too hot or may impact fragrance performance and wick behavior.
-
Choose a Safe Location
Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, vents, fans, curtains, bedding, paper products, and other flammable materials. Drafts can cause uneven burning, excessive flickering, and soot buildup.
-
Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended
Always extinguish candles before leaving a room or going to sleep. Keep burning candles out of each of children and pets at all times.
-
When to Stop Burning
Discontinue use when approximately 1/4 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Continuing to burn beyond this point may cause the vessel to overheat or crack.
-
Candle Storage
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Proper storage helps preserve fragrance quality, wax appearance, and overall performance.
